Our migration agents in Brisbane are often asked questions about how to apply for the skilled migration once I have completed my studies. Well, there is no particular answer to this question. To get a better understanding of this it is essential to get a basic understanding of the Skilled migration program in Australia.
Australia skilled migration is point-based
Whether or not you qualify to apply for the visa depends on the points you have. You are given the points depending on various factors like qualification, English capability, age, and work experience. In most occupations, the requirement is 60 points. However, there are certain occupations in which the points are more.
Selected Occupation should be on the Skilled Occupation List
If you want things done by yourself to meet the essential requirements then you need to apply for the Skilled Independent 189 Visa. The selected occupation should be included in the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
The occupations in the SOL are given high consideration, and their skills make a lot of difference. If you are going to do undergraduate study for 3 years to become a skilled nurse then you need to pass the Occupation English Test (OET) or IELTS. To get a better understanding of the visa type and how it should be applied you need to consult the migration agent.
SOL can be different with every state
With each state, the skilled migrant intake will depend on how much labor requirement they need. The occupation on the SOL can be obtained in the list which is known as the CSOL (Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List). This list includes around 500 occupations. If you get the nomination from the state government then you are extra points for the following visa types:
- For Skilled regional visa – Subclass 489 the applicant gets 10 points
- For Skilled Nomination visa – Subclass 190 the applicant gets 5 points
What are the things you need to consider?
- Focus on your interests
There are courses in which the applicant needs skills and gets an understanding of the subject matter. To study engineering the student needs to have a strong understanding of physics and maths.
- Family expectations
If your family has a successful business and they want to come back to your home country, it is better that you opt for MBA or BBA.
- Check your finances
There are certain courses whose fees are very high. So, make sure you are careful while choosing the course.
- Career ideas that are beneficial for skilled migration
International students need to look beyond the usual accounting, engineering courses, and IT sector. If you are getting confused about which option to go with then consult the migration agent for better understanding. Some of the study options which you need to consider are:
- Social work
- Secondary school teaching
- Nursing
- Law
- Medical laboratory science
Make sure to go with the most beneficial option so that it makes it easier for you to have a better life in Australia.
