The Information and Technology Ministry on Friday banned 47 apps which are variants or clones of Chinese-liked 59 apps that were banned earlier in June.
Since the last ban has been done, the source of the Ministry tells the Indian Express that there is an issue with the operational ethics of certain applications. This process is ongoing and it takes a lot of time. If the operational ethics are proper then the app will come under the scanner.
Banned under Section 69A
The apps banned by the Indian Government are under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. Among these apps, many of them are the most downloaded ones which make India the largest user for these apps. This move has been taken because of the tense border situation between India and China which has led to the 20 Indian Army getting killed on June 15. Taking this is going to leave a major impact on the Chinese business.
Several reports of mobile misuse
- Moreover, the Ministry of Information technology has received many complaints from different sources of these mobile apps getting misused on iOS and Android platforms. There has been information about stealing and surreptitiously transmitting user’s data in an unwanted manner to severe which are not present in India.
- The data complicates its profiling and mining by elements hostile to the national security and defense system of India. This thing is going to impact the integrity and sovereignty of India. This is going to be an immediate and deep concern and there is a need of getting emergency measures done.
- Due to the reason of getting credible inputs that such Apps pose a threat to the integrity of India has resulted in not using certain apps whether the mobile devices are mobile and non-mobile Internet-based.
The government is taking these steps because of the tension which is increasing at the India-China Border and how the life of Indian Soldiers is being taken.
Clarification on data-sharing
The firms are asked to clear the data-sharing standards under the Chinese law which requires companies of Chinese origin to share data which is included with the country’s intelligence agencies. No matter where they operate the data needs to be shared perfectly.
After the June ban, there has been a need to find out the technical means where the data is going and what the hidden codes are. According to the findings, there are accumulations of complaints that have the decision of choosing the government approach.
The apps are found to be operating despite the ban still they are being taken down from the application stores. Additional apps like LBE Tech, Netease Games, Perfect Corp, Sina Corp, and Youzoo Global. Everyone needs to follow the government’s order as it is a big step taken by the Indian Government.
