With the outbreak of COVID-19 all over the world, there is just one question in every body’s mind, When will the vaccine be developed? No doubt, all over the world different research groups and scientists are working on finding something effective and it should be safe also. Read the guide to learn more.
Overview
In the past, there were different outbreaks faced by the world but this time the outbreak by the virus COVID-19, which has affected everyone’s life greatly. There is just one question on everybody’s mind when will the vaccine come out to prevent its effect?
Till now the scientists are not able to find something effective to stop its outbreak.
No doubt, with technological advancement everything is much better and faster now to something effective for this infectious disease.
Development of faster Vaccine
- Various reports have come out on the working of the Coronavirus. The groups are funded by the nonprofit organization CEPI for the development of vaccines for infectious diseases.
- The U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious disease, in Moderna, estimates that the vaccine might be ready within 3 months of the first phase of the clinical trial.
- Along with Moderna, Inovio is working to find the newer vaccine which is based on specific DNA of the virus. Scientists are going to design the vaccine as soon as they get the virus genetic sequence. The best part of technology is that it bypasses the traditional approach to developing the vaccine and allows the process to go faster.
- One of the other groups in Australia is working to get the vaccine ready within 16 weeks. The vaccine is being developed for the viral proteins present in cell cultures.
What about the clinical trials?
With such a feasible timeline the development of vaccines might be possible but it is way too fast for the careful evaluation and safety of the vaccine.
Given the circumstances, the need for the urgency of the vaccine is understandable. Even when the vaccine is developed it needs to undergo animal testing and clinical trials to make sure it is safe. Every step needs time to be done properly, but in the end, a few weeks and months are needed.
What does this mean?
In the earlier outbreak, it took around 20 months to find a vaccine and test it properly for the safety of people.
Now, it is important to take preventive measures like identifying people who are infected, declaring quarantine, and staying away from infected people. With these steps, the outbreak can be controlled to some degree.
No doubt, coronavirus is different from other outbreaks. But, there is hope that the vaccine will come in the market soon and it could help to reduce the effect of flu effectively.
